Feeding Saltwater Fish: Q&A
John Frazier of Fly Fishing in Saltwaters sat down with three saltwater experts, Andy Mill, Nick Sassic, and Craig Cantelmo, to talk about “feeding” the fish. Because your cast, even if is a 100-foot beauty, will only get you so far, every saltwater angler should learn what to do after the cast. Some say strip slow, some say strip fast but ultimately it comes down to the situation. For instance, if a tarpon is laid-up, you want to get the fly as close to his nose as possible, says Sassic. Mill is an advocate of constant movement, and because you can only strip so much before your fly gets to the boat, he uses marabou and rabbit tails that give the fly action even when it is not being stripped.
