How to Tie a Griffith’s Gnat Emerger

How to Tie a Griffith's Gnat Emerger Fly PatternSays tier and videographer Tim Flagler: “The Griffith’s Gnat Emerger is another wonderful pattern from the good folks out at Blue Ribbon Flies in West Yellowstone, Montana. It may look more complex than a standard Griffith’s Gnat but I actually find it easier to tie. I really like how it can be skittered on the water’s surface to imitate a midge natural.”

Tim ties this one on a Dai-Riki #125 size 20 hook.

I use TMC hooks. What is a good TMC hook to use for this fly. Would a dry fly hook work better. Thanks Mike

Try a 206 BL….that’s what I use for small drys.

I should have noted that this fly doesn’t float very well if you use a space amount of hackle. If you load up the hackle you can probably get by with a stout hook. Tied space, you need a light weight hook.

    I would try a TMC 2487

Wow, auto correct got me twice; space = sparse.

    Thanks I’ll use 2488 TMC
