When Guides Lose Their Religion
It is almost impossible to explain to someone who hasn’t fully invested themselves in guiding for a number of years what being a good guide requires. Taking enormous energy and personal flexibility, it’s simply one of those things that you won’t fully understand until you live and breath it. Almost inevitably, a long-time guide begins to ask himself or herself “Why?” Coloradan Gary Hubbell guided for 20-odd years before recently deciding that he had given up enough.
