Trout Blind Spot: A Specious Notion

Wendell Ozefovich, who has spent several years now photographing the underwater behavior of trout, shared some surprising insight at this week’s Fly Fishing Show in Denver. “‘This notion of a blind spot behind is very specious,’ says Ozefovich, who has positioned himself to know. ‘All they have to do is turn a little bit and they can see everything.'” Among his more significant bits of advice: don’t use bushy hackle (trout need to see a distinct profile) and never grease a trico’s body (trout expect them to protrude through the surface).
