How to Tie a Dustup Caddis

Producer: Tim Flagler  |  Tightline Productions

Tier and videographer Tim Flagler: “I call this fly the Dustup Caddis for reasons that will become obvious later. It’s super easy to tie, can be done in a range of sizes and colors, and in fairly short order has become my go-to caddis pattern when I’m able to find fish rising to take naturals.”

Excellent tying instructions and added information in how to keep the fly floating. Thank you very much!

Whenever I pull out my TWO tubes of Overton’s Wonder Wax I realize just how long a good thing can last (late ’70s?).

I Like you bodkin, I got one just like it that I bought from Thomas and Thomas back in 1982! I had good success with this one on the Beaverkill, hare’s ear mask and a wing, I tied mine a little different than you do, works great for the Mothers Day Hatch on the Beaverkill, I started tying in in 1991, I was tying elk hair caddis, and then I tied one and forgot the hackle, I fished it rather than toss it, it worked real well, They get a little beat up after 40 fish or so but hey its a cheap very quick caddis pattern to tie!
