Tom Helgeson Tributes Pour In
Ever since we published notice of the passing of publisher Tom Helgeson on Monday, friends and fly fishers have been telling stories of Tom’s remarkable life.
After writing Helgeson’s obituary, Chris Niskanen shares several tributes on TwinCities.com, where Larry Gavin, Minnesota poet, angler and friend says “I remember that Tom always described fishing as ‘Standing in the water waiting for something good to happen.’ It seemed to sum up how he lived life. Always looking for the good in things.” Niskanen’s piece also includes comments from Mike Dvorak, Matt Valitchka, Bob White, Larry Gavin, Bill Sherer and Elizabeth S. Scheurer.
In the Minneapolis St. Paul Star-Tribune, where Helgeson was once deputy managing editor, Dennis Anderson said his passing “death leaves a vast conservation void in Minnesota and throughout the Midwest.”
