How to Tie the Red Rib Soft Hackle
Producer: Fly Fish Food
Last month, we featured Kubie Brown’s excellent “3 Effective Ways to Fish Soft Hackles,” in which he shared why he loves fishing these traditional patterns so much. (Mostly, it’s because they catch trout, of course.) In this week’s fly-tying video, Cheech from Fly Fish Food walks us through the steps to create an elegant Soft Hackle that’s both buggy and durable. Here’s what the man himself has to say about it:
This simple but deadly trout pattern stays true to traditional soft hackles but adds a wire rib for extra durability, so it holds up fish after fish. Soft hackles shine when swung through the current, a classic and effective way to catch trout. In this video, Cheech walks through the full tie, showing how to get perfect proportions, natural movement, and long-lasting performance in one sleek fly.
