Getting Started
How do I create a MidCurrent Plus account?
Visit midcurrent.com/join and choose your plan. Free members can sign up with just an email address. Standard members will be prompted to enter payment information through our secure checkout (powered by Stripe). Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive a welcome email with next steps.
How do I sign in to my account?
Click “Sign In” in the top navigation on midcurrent.com. Enter the email address you used to sign up, and we’ll send you a magic link—no password required. Click the link in your email to access your account. The link expires after 15 minutes for security.
I didn’t receive my sign-in email. What should I do?
First, check your spam or junk folder. If you use Gmail, also check the Promotions tab. If you still don’t see it after a few minutes, try requesting a new link. Make sure you’re entering the same email address you used to sign up. If problems persist, email us at [email protected].
Can I use a different email address than the one I signed up with?
Yes. Sign in to your account, go to Account Settings, and update your email address. You’ll need to verify the new address before the change takes effect. Note that this will also change where your newsletters are delivered.
Membership Tiers & Benefits
What’s the difference between Free and Standard membership?
Free members receive a monthly overview guide covering all regions, weekly curated newsletters, one Ask MidCurrent question per month, and full access to our article archives. Standard members ($4.95/month, $12.95/quarter, or $47.50/year) get everything in Free plus: up to four personalized monthly guides matched to their interests, personalized weekly newsletters, three Ask MidCurrent questions per month, monthly gear discounts from partner brands (typically 15-30% off), an ad-free reading experience, and access to member-only articles.
What does “personalized” mean?
When you sign up, you tell us what species you target (trout, saltwater, warmwater, salmon/steelhead), where you fish, and your experience level. Standard members receive content tailored to those preferences—so if you’re a trout angler in the Rockies, you won’t see articles about bonefish in the Bahamas unless you want to. Your newsletters and monthly guides are built specifically for you. You can always change your preferences in your account menu if you change your mind about what content you want to see
Can I access Standard content if I’m a Free member?
Free members can see previews of Standard-only articles but will need to upgrade to read the full content. Some articles are available to all members regardless of tier.
Is there a trial period for Standard membership?
We don’t offer a free trial, but you can cancel your Standard membership at any time and retain access through the end of your billing period. If you’re unsure, start with Free or Monthly—you can always upgrade later. We find that most members prefer Quarterly or Yearly memberships to reduce the number of billing notifications.
Billing & Payments
How much does MidCurrent Plus cost?
Free membership costs nothing. Standard membership is $4.95 per month (billed monthly), $12.95 per quarter (billed quarterly), or $47.50 per year (billed annually). The quarterly plan saves you 13%—just $4.32 per month, and the annual plan saves you 20%—just $3.96 per month.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) and payment methods through Stripe, our secure payment processor. We do not currently accept PayPal, checks, or bank transfers.
When will I be charged?
Monthly subscribers are charged on the same date each month (the date you originally signed up). Annual subscribers are charged once per year on their signup anniversary. You’ll receive an email receipt after each charge.
How do I update my payment method?
Sign in to your account and go to Account Settings > Subscription > Update Payment Method. Enter your new card details. The change takes effect immediately and will be used for your next billing cycle.
Where can I find my receipts and billing history?
Sign in to your account and go to Account Settings > Subscription > Billing History. You can view and download receipts for all past payments.
My payment failed. What happens now?
If a payment fails, we’ll send you an email notification and retry the charge after a few days. Your access continues during this grace period. If the payment continues to fail, your membership will be paused until you update your payment method. Sign in to your account to update your card.
Can I get a refund?
We offer refunds on a case-by-case basis. If you’re unhappy with your membership, email us at [email protected] within 14 days of your most recent charge and we’ll work with you. Annual subscribers who cancel mid-year do not receive partial refunds, but retain access through the end of their billing period.
Upgrading & Changing Plans
How do I upgrade from Free to Standard?
Sign in to your account and go to Account Settings > Subscription > Upgrade. Choose monthly or annual billing, enter your payment information, and you’ll have immediate access to all Standard benefits.
How do I switch from monthly to annual billing?
Sign in to your account and go to Account Settings > Subscription > Change Plan. When you switch to annual, we’ll credit you for any unused time on your current monthly plan and apply it toward your annual subscription.
Can I switch from annual to monthly?
Yes, but the change takes effect at the end of your current annual period. You’ll continue to have annual access until your renewal date, then switch to monthly billing. We don’t offer partial refunds for unused annual time.
What happens to my content preferences if I upgrade?
Your preferences carry over. If you set your interests as a Free member, those same preferences will be used to personalize your Standard content. You can update your preferences at any time in Account Settings.
Newsletters & Content
How often will I receive newsletters?
All members receive four newsletters per month (roughly weekly). Standard members receive personalized content matched to their preferences; Free members receive a curated selection of highlights.
When are newsletters sent?
Newsletters are typically sent on Thursday mornings (Eastern Time). Occasionally we may adjust the schedule around holidays.
I’m not receiving newsletters. What’s wrong?
First, check your spam/junk folder and add [email protected] to your contacts. Gmail users should check the Promotions tab. If newsletters still aren’t arriving, sign in to your account and verify your email address is correct in Account Settings. You can also check that newsletters are enabled in your email preferences. If problems persist, email [email protected].
Can I read past newsletters?
Yes. Sign in to your account and visit the Newsletter Archive to browse past issues. Standard members can access all past personalized newsletters; Free members can access past Free-tier newsletters.
How do I access member-only articles on the website?
Make sure you’re signed in. Member-only articles will display in full once you’re logged in with an active Standard membership. If you see a paywall, check that your subscription is active in Account Settings.
Monthly Guides
What are the monthly guides?
Each month, we publish downloadable PDF guides covering what’s fishing well right now—including hatches, fly recommendations, techniques, and destination ideas. Standard members receive up to four personalized guides based on their species and region preferences. Free members receive one combined overview guide covering all regions.
How do I download my monthly guide?
Standard members: Sign in to your account and go to My Guides (or Downloads). You’ll see all guides matched to your preferences. Click to download. Guides are also linked in your monthly newsletter. Free members: Your combined guide is attached to the first newsletter of each month. You can also access it in your account under Downloads.
When are new guides released?
New guides are published on the first of each month (or the first business day if the 1st falls on a weekend).
Can I access guides from previous months?
Yes. Standard members have access to a full archive of past guides in their account. Free members can access their past combined guides.
How do I get guides for a different region or species?
Update your preferences in Account Settings > My Preferences. Changes take effect immediately—you’ll see new guide options in your Downloads section. Note that mid-month changes won’t retroactively add guides from earlier in the month; they’ll apply starting with the next release.
Ask MidCurrent
What is Ask MidCurrent?
Ask MidCurrent lets you submit fly fishing questions directly to our editorial team. Whether you’re stuck on a technique, choosing gear, planning a trip, or troubleshooting a problem, we’ll give you a thoughtful, personalized answer—not a generic AI response.
How many questions can I ask?
Free members can submit 1 question per month. Standard members can submit up to 3 questions per month. Unused questions do not roll over to the next month.
How do I submit a question?
Sign in to your account and go to Ask MidCurrent. Type your question in the form (be as specific as possible—the more detail you give us, the better we can help). You’ll receive a confirmation email when we receive your question.
How long until I get a response?
We aim to respond within 48 hours, though most questions are answered within 24 hours. Complex questions (like detailed trip planning or gear comparisons) may take slightly longer. Responses are sent directly to your email.
What kinds of questions can I ask?
Almost anything related to fly fishing: techniques, gear recommendations, fly selection, trip planning, casting problems, reading water, fly tying, species-specific tactics, and more. We can’t provide medical, legal, or financial advice, and we don’t book trips or make reservations on your behalf.
Can I ask follow-up questions?
Yes. Replying to our response doesn’t count against your monthly question limit—we’re happy to clarify or dig deeper on the same topic. Follow-ups on a different topic do count as a new question.
How do I check how many questions I have left this month?
Sign in and go to Ask MidCurrent. Your remaining question count is displayed at the top of the page. Questions reset on the 1st of each month.
Gear Discounts (Standard Members)
How do gear discounts work?
Each month, we partner with a different fly fishing brand to offer Standard members an exclusive discount—typically 20-30% off. You’ll receive a unique discount code in your newsletter and can also find it in your account under Member Discounts.
Where can I find the current discount code?
Sign in and go to Member Discounts. The current month’s offer is displayed at the top, including the code, discount amount, and any restrictions. Past offers are listed below (most are expired, but we note any that are still valid).
Can I share my discount code with friends?
Discount codes are for MidCurrent Plus Standard members only and are tied to your membership. Sharing codes may result in them being deactivated. If your friends want access, encourage them to join!
The discount code isn’t working. What should I do?
Double-check that you’re entering the code exactly as shown (codes are case-sensitive). Verify the code hasn’t expired and that your cart meets any minimum purchase requirements. Some codes exclude certain products (like sale items). If everything looks right and it still doesn’t work, email [email protected] with a screenshot and we’ll help.
Do Free members get gear discounts?
Gear discounts are a Standard member benefit. Free members can upgrade at any time to access the current month’s discount.
Preferences & Personalization
How do I set or update my content preferences?
Sign in and go to Account Settings > My Preferences. You can select your species interests (trout, saltwater, warmwater, salmon/steelhead), primary fishing region, and skill level. Changes are saved automatically and take effect with your next newsletter.
Can I select multiple species or regions?
Yes. You can select as many species as you like. Standard members receive personalized guides for each species/region combination they select (up to four guides per month). Selecting more interests means more diverse content; selecting fewer means more focused content.
What if my interests change seasonally?
Update your preferences anytime. Many anglers adjust their settings based on the season—adding steelhead in winter, saltwater in summer, etc. There’s no limit to how often you can change.
How do I control what emails I receive?
Go to Account Settings > Email Preferences. You can toggle newsletters, guide notifications, Ask MidCurrent responses, and promotional emails independently. Note: We’ll always send transactional emails (receipts, password resets, account alerts) regardless of your settings.
Canceling Your Membership
How do I cancel my Standard membership?
Sign in and go to Account Settings > Subscription > Cancel Membership. Follow the prompts to confirm. Your access continues through the end of your current billing period—you won’t lose access immediately.
What happens when I cancel?
You’ll retain Standard access until your current billing period ends. After that, your account converts to Free membership. You’ll still receive Free-tier newsletters and can access the article archives, but you’ll lose access to personalized guides, gear discounts, and member-only content.
Can I reactivate my membership after canceling?
Yes. Sign in and go to Account Settings > Subscription > Reactivate. If you’re still within your original billing period, your Standard access simply continues. If your billing period has ended, you’ll be charged for a new subscription.
How do I delete my account entirely?
Email [email protected] and request account deletion. We’ll remove your account and all associated data within 30 days. This action is permanent and cannot be undone. If you have an active paid subscription, please cancel it first.
Gift Memberships
Can I give MidCurrent Plus as a gift?
Yes! Both monthly and annual Standard memberships are available as gifts. Visit midcurrent.com/gift to purchase. You can schedule delivery for any date—perfect for birthdays, holidays, or just because.
How does the recipient redeem their gift?
They’ll receive an email with a unique redemption link. Clicking the link walks them through creating an account (or signing in if they already have one) and activating their gift membership.
What if the recipient already has a membership?
If they have a Free membership, the gift upgrades them to Standard. If they already have an active Standard membership, the gift extends their subscription by the gift duration (e.g., a 1-year gift adds 12 months to their renewal date).
Can the recipient change the gift to a different plan?
Gift memberships are fixed at the plan you purchased. The recipient cannot exchange a monthly gift for an annual one (or vice versa). However, they can upgrade or change plans after the gift period ends.
Can I get a refund on a gift purchase?
Unredeemed gifts can be refunded within 30 days of purchase. Once a gift is redeemed, it cannot be refunded. Email [email protected] with your order details.

Disable any ad blockers temporarily, as they can sometimes interfere with our sign-in system. If problems persist, try a different browser or device.
I’m signed in but still seeing paywalls.
