How to Predict a Stonefly “Hatch”

Producer: Jensen Fly Fishing

“Fools define hatches, so don’t expect us to tell you there will be a great stonefly hatch on Tuesday at noon. As you’ll soon discover, it isn’t the hatch that offers the most exciting part of a stonefly event. Through the decades there have been trends that we’ve noticed while chasing great fly fishing during the various stonefly hatch windows. From the early to the late hatches, stoneflies can offer excellent migration nymph fishing and dry fly fishing. In the northern hemisphere stoneflies can emerge from February through September and their nymphs an ever-present staple in trout diets as the stonefly life cycle can be upwards of 4 years. Let’s have a look!”
