If you fish chironomids, or buzzers as much of the world refers to them, this stillwater trout fly might be just the pattern you’re looking for. Chironomids hatch year-round, and throughout the colder months, buzzers are frequently eaten by trout. These large chironomids are some of the only active insects available in the water column and offer valuable calories to hungry trout. This fly is not only easy to tie, but it is also very durable due to the materials and techniques used. Check out this buzzer fly pattern, tie some up, and fish them on a stillwater near you! Curtis is an avid fly tyer living along the Wasatch Mountains in Utah. He grew up in western Idaho and the high deserts of eastern Oregon, fishing for bass, trout, carp, catfish, and whitefish: basically anything that swims.
