This Tying Tuesday starts with Ryan from Trident Fly Fishing and the Electric Chicken Flatwing. He ties the chartreuse-and-pink streamer as a Maine smelt pattern, an ice-out fly for landlocked salmon and brook trout chasing baitfish in the shallows. Up next is the Henry’s Fork Foam Stone with Mike Lawson. This high-floating stonefly pattern mimics a golden stonefly with an egg sac in tow: a large meal for a hungry trout. We move to the BWO Dry Fly from Flies by Aspeen; this one’s easy to tie and consistently productive, the kind of pattern that belongs in every box. Lastly, the Green Butt Skunk as tied by Fly Fish Food’s Clark “Cheech” Pierce. This steelhead fly was developed by Dan Callaghan on the North Umpqua River in the 1950’s, and remains an essential steelhead pattern.
