Orvis has released a limited run of Helios D fly rods tied to its ongoing work with Captains for Clean Water. The series focuses on two saltwater models built for the fisheries that the organization is working to protect in Florida Bay and the Everglades.
The release includes a 9-foot, 9-weight and a 9-foot, 11-weight, both built on the distance-focused Helios D platform. According to Orvis, the 9-weight is designed for bonefish and permit, with quick-loading power, long-distance capability, and the accuracy the Helios D series is known for in wind. The 11-weight is aimed at Everglades tarpon, with an emphasis on quickly generating line speed for loading and shooting line, along with the length and reach needed to lift line and mend with control.
Both rods were developed with input from guides and anglers working on the water in South Florida. Each rod features Captains for Clean Water branding on the rod, rod bag, and tube, connecting the build to the conservation work behind it.
Orvis states that both models are purpose-built for saltwater use, with an all-aluminum anodized reel seat for corrosion resistance and a full wells grip paired with a fighting butt for control under load. The rods are made in the USA and backed by a 25-year guarantee. Only 400 rods were produced across both models.
The collaboration builds on Orvis’ broader conservation efforts and its partnership with Captains for Clean Water over the past five years. The organization has played a central role in Everglades restoration, working across guide communities, industry partners, and policymakers to support what is widely considered the largest ecosystem restoration project in the world. Captains for Clean Water was founded in 2016 by fishing guides responding to declining water quality in Florida’s estuaries, with a focus on advancing science-based solutions through awareness, education, and public engagement.
The Helios platform has established a track record across a wide range of fisheries, with a focus on accuracy, durability, and fishability. This release ties that platform to a conservation effort directly connected to the fishery. The Helios D Captains for Clean Water rods are available now in limited quantities with an MSRP of $1,298.
