Part 1 of 6: Intro

Russ Miller with Umpqua Feather Merchants talks about why we continue to fish throughout the winter months.

“There’s definitely a cult of people who like to get out all winter long.  It’s because they know a secret that most people don’t: Winter offers up some spectacular winter fishing opportunities, and they are there for you to go get at your local stream, whether you are here in the Rocky Mountains, or you’re on the east coast up in northern Pennsylvania, or you’re down in North Carolina, winter fishing is an absolute blast.  One of the things I love about it is the lack of crowds….

Here in Colorado we chase a lot of tailwaters, which are below a reservoir. We get consistent temperature and open water.  A lot of our freestone rivers have already locked up in ice, and we still have  lot of open water below these big tailwater dams.”
