Gear Review: Frabill Floating Trout Net

February 8, 2021 By: Robert Morselli

The Frabill Floating Trout Net was the Best Of category winner at ICAST 2020, and with good reason.  Materials, design, dimensions and mesh specs have been perfectly thought out. It’s a perfectly sized trout net, capable of scooping up and managing the brawniest trout (it features a very deep basket) – yet the fine, rubberized, tangle-free mesh weave will delicately cradle even the smallest trout. A slightly oversized, ergonomic handle allows for an excellent grip, wet or dry.

The floating hoop has two advantages: it makes for an ultra-light net (only 275 grams) and it helps capture/release by preventing the net from wrapping a fish. The hoop also features an innovative cushioned rim that helps protect thrashing fish.

This product was tested over a 60 day period: it showed no sign of wear and was capable of withstanding some abuse. Top-tier lanyard and a good quality carabiner round out this great package.  Features a 28cm x 38cm classic hoop shape.

Highly recommended.
