  • The Native Fish Society’s Wenatchee Watershed Cold Water Campaign aims to identify, assess and conserve critical cold-water habitats for threatened salmon, steelhead and trout in Washington’s Wenatchee River. The NFS is crowdfunding to raise $20,000 over the summer of 2017, which will enable the monitoring of thermal refuges. • The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has announced new barracuda size limits. These changes will apply in state and federal waters off Collier, Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Martin counties. “In recent years, stakeholders in southeast Florida and the Florida Keys who fish and dive have voiced concerns about seeing declines in barracuda numbers.”
  • A proposed bill would unwind existing Montana water laws and would help ensure that rivers and streams would have enough cold water at the end of seasons or in dry years to support fish populations. “It’s a radical idea in a state where agriculture is still king, but Gutkoski and a few others believe it’s an important idea, especially now.” Via The Bozeman Daily Chronicle.
