Tippets: Early Orvis Fly Book, Ginking & Sinking

November 9, 2015 By: Erin Block

  • In 1883, Charles F. Orvis co-edited a book called “Fishing with the Fly,” which contained colored plates of 149 standard trout, salmon, and bass flies, along with 24 articles by well-known anglers of the time. The book is available to read in full online via The Internet Archive.
  • In a recent article, Louis Cahill writes about the three reasons why fishing a dry fly subsurface might actually increase your odds of catching finicky rising trout. Read more in “Don’t Gink It, Sink It,” via Gink and Gasoline.
