  • The ear bones of salmon hold a unique chemical signature that allow researchers track the fish’s movement, and a study out of the University of Washington does just that. “Each fish has this little recorder, and we can reveal the whole life history of the fish from the perspective of the otolith,” says study lead Sean Brennan. The research is hoped to help dwindling populations of Chinook salmon, and can be read in the open access journal, Science Advances.
