Video: Make a Homemade Bobbin with Chinese Take Out

Here’s one for all you DIY people…

You didn’t misread that headline. According to Jim Misiura, you can make a homemade thread bobbin with an ink pen tube, some spring wire from some Chinese take out, a few beads and some thread. Just follow his steps above and viola—you’ve got yourself a practically free bobbin for fly tying or rod building.

Why would one want to do such a thing? One, bobbins are pretty expensive these days and saving money for leaders and tippet is never a bad thing. Two, you could make one in a pinch while traveling. Lastly, using items that you’ve built is just cool.
