Peer Review: Bristol Bay Threat “Understated”

November 13, 2012 By: Erin Block

The independent peer review panel formed to evaluate the EPA’s scientific research on the proposed Pebble Mine has released its report to the public.  Despite accusations by the Pebble Partnership and other mining proponents that the EPA’s research was biased, the independent panel found the EPA’s original report to be a “transparent process and good science.”

The authors of the peer review document go on to say: “The potential risks and impacts are fairly and succinctly stated. Given the extremely long-term nature of the projected Pebble project, and the irreversible changes which would be imposed to the region, the risks seem, if anything, understated.”
