The Sunday Nature Film: “Celestial Lights”

July 22, 2012 By: Marshall Cutchin

We’re starting a new tradition on MidCurrent: the Sunday nature film.  Some of us (especially those of us who watch over 2,000 fly fishing videos year) like to engage with more than fish-specific video.  After all, some of us fish just to be out there.  If you see any extraordinary videos you think we should feature, please send the link to [email protected].

Ole C. Salomonsen’s “Celestial Lights”  is a stop-motion video  stop motion about the northern lights.  As Salomonsen says: “Our sun’s activity varies in 11-year cycles, and we are closing solar maximum (solar max) for our current solar cycle somewhere between 2012-2013, and solar activity with corresponding auroral activity has clearly been picking up. The beginning of 2011 was lots of clouds but weather improved late 2011 and out 2012. This video contains recordings from some of the most spectacular auroral displays I have ever witnessed, and I have seen a few.”
