Video Hatch: Overfishing the Bosphorus

February 6, 2011 By: Marshall Cutchin

In January, Marc Champion wrote extensively about how overfishing in the Bosphorus, a natural choke point credited with holding so many fish that Homer, in The Iliad, Agamemnon offered Achilles the riches of the Bosphorus fishing grounds as a bribe to keep the hero fighting at Troy. Champion described how both macro- and micro-fishing economies are taking their toll, and how — predictably — commerce has stoked denial of the problem.
The Wall Street Journal also recently released a video to accompany Champion’s piece.
