Podcast: Rosenbauer on "The First 30 Feet"

January 10, 2011 By: Marshall Cutchin

In his latest podcast, Tom gives a bunch of fly tips then talks about the challenges of getting that first 30 feet of fly line out of the rod tip.
“It’s a problem that everybody has. Getting the line out to 30 feet is not pretty for most us. I’ll give you a little background on why. Fly line sizes are a standard that were adopted back in the 1960s when they first started making synthetic fly lines instead of making them out of silk. And for any given line size — a 5-weight or a 4-weight or a 6-weight and so on — there is a standard for the weight in grains for the first 30 feet of the line.”
