Fly Fishing Photographer Richard Schaaff Dies

November 4, 2010 By: Marshall Cutchin

We first came across Rich Schaaff and his unique photographic skills two years ago when we were looking for interesting new artists for MidCurrent’s photography pages. I was personally struck by Rich’s skills in working with low-light photography and his ability to find simple beauty in black-and-white images of the rivers and fish he loved. As Rich said in his Web site bio, “I don’t recall the actual moment my fly fishing and photography hit head on, but I knew than I was a goner.
Richard died Tuesday after a brief battle with lung cancer. His Facebook page — filled with messages from new and old friends — and a yet-to-be published article by friend Kirk Werner remind us of how a person with humble goals, expansive vision and a very large heart can touch and influence a great number of people.
Thanks for sharing with us, Rich.
