Five Great Smoky Mountains Trout Destinations

April 28, 2010 By: Marshall Cutchin

In North Carolina Game and Fish, Jim Casada highlights five places to fish for trout in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. These areas can be explored during full or half-day outings, yet still offer that much needed retreat from heavy angling pressure so often encountered by the self-guided traveling angler.
Casada gives the reader options that range from backpacking into remote and rugged wilderness areas, to places where a short walk from the car will put you in position to float dry flies over native brook trout, feisty rainbows, or selective browns. “The common denominator is that you can get away from it all and have quite realistic expectations of catching not just the occasional trout but lots of them.”
