New Products: Shimano's Evair Marine Fishing Sandals

I began wearing one-piece molded EVA sandals to pole a boat about two years ago, after waiting in the hospital for my daughter to have her tonsils out and noticing that every doctor who walked by was wearing Crocs. If they could stand comfortably on concrete all day long, I figured, maybe those funny-looking shoes they wore would work on a boat. And there were no shoelaces to tangle in a fly line. Sure enough, after overcoming my doubts about stability and safety, I tossed my old boat shoes. Shimano is just out with a new Marine Fishing Sandal, the Evair, which weighs just 6 ounces. The appeal, for me, is the semi-closed toe and the non-marking soles, and although I wear a pair of socks to prevent sunburn while on the boat, my feet thank me for the openings while enduring the Florida humidity. The Evair Sandals come in blue/gray or green/black two-tone colors and retail for around $40. Cool-weather anglers might also be interested in the Evair Deck Boots.
