Spring Fly Fishing on the Miramichi

“‘What I like to do is throw it out at 45 degress and put the rod tip 2 inches above the water, put the rod tip down and let it follow the fly around, this way you don’t got to set your hook. When that fish hits, it’s tight, but if you leave your rod up he’s going to feel the rod, and you don’t want him to feel the rod. If everything is tight when he touches it, he’s hooked.‘” In the final part of Don Barone’s hilarious series on fly fishing the classic pools of the Miramichi, his guide and Black Rapids Salmon Lodge manager George Curtis gives advice on making sure the novice angler hooks an Atlantic salmon.
