Haute Cuisine for White Pelicans
According to Wikipedia, “Haute cuisine is characterized by complex dishes requiring elaborate preparation.” This apparently is the culinary aim of real estate developers in Buena Vista, Colorado, who paid $2 a pound for stocked trout only to have them gobbled up by white pelicans, which happen to be protected as migratory birds. “‘If you set the table for pelicans with a shallow pond filled with trout, they’re going to find it and eat them. That’s what they do. There’s no compensation for that,'” says John Cornely of the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Rick Tosches in the Denver Post.
