Washington's Cowlitz River

January 1, 2006 By: Marshall Cutchin

Southwest Washington state’s Cowlitz, a tributary of the Columbia, is one of the most popular rivers in the U.S. northwest. “Arriving late afternoon at the access area behind the Cowlitz Trout Hatchery, we rendezvous with expert flyfisherman Mike Sturza, owner of Lost Creek Fly Shop in Onalaska, Wash. A popular place to bank fish for trout, this middle section of the Cowlitz contains both hatchery-released cutthroat and true native trout from nearby Blue Creek tributary.” Sue Hansen in the Corvallis (Oregon) Gazette-Times.
