Fly Fishing Trip: Colorado's Top 2005 Trout Fishing

May 14, 2005 By: Marshall Cutchin

Ed Dentry logs the top spots for fishing this trout mecca in 2005, among them the high mountain lakes. “A few years ago, state fisheries managers quit stocking non-native trout and started converting high lakes fisheries to native cutthroats – Colorado River cutthroats on the Western Slope, greenback cutthroats (the official state fish) in the northeast mountains and Rio Grande cutthroats in the southeast. Stocked as fingerlings by airplane, the gold and scarlet cutthroats have grown and are taking over lakes that also once held exotics such as grayling, rainbow and golden trout.” In the Rocky Mountain News.
