How to Tie a Little Black Stonefly Nymph

Producer: Tim Flagler  |  Tightline Productions

Tim Flagler shows how to tie a Little Black Stonefly Nymph, one of the earliest effective stonefly patterns of the season.

“Just because there’s still snow on the ground and you can’t feel your hands doesn’t mean you can’t fish,” says Flagler.  “I’ll tie this pattern on behind a heavily weighted Prince, and it’s usually a toss-up which fly gets taken.”

Thanks, I just started tying down to size 18 this year. These videos really help figure out the little flies.

If I may be so bold to ask, would you tie a Connecticut River Curler as found in the book entitled Hatch Guide For New England Streams. I’m not sure how to tie the thorax portion with only a picture.
