How to Tie a Caddis Emerger

Producer: Tim Flagler

In tying the Caddis Emerger, Tim Flagler chooses wool over the more modern Zelon often preferred for it’s sparkle.  Flagler reasons that the translucent quality of the wet wool is a perfect imitation of the bubble that forms around the caddis body as it rises to the surface.

“No, it’s not a fancy looking fly, and I can’t imagine it having a lot of ‘bin appeal’ in the fly shop,” says Flagler, “but I can assure you that they are absolutely deadly on the river.”
