Tom Rosenbauer suggests that one of the best things you can do when trying to land big fish in fast water is to be sure you will be able to follow the fish downstream.
Excerpt: “We all have problems playing fish in fast water. I know that when you’re steelhead fishing you figure that if you land one out of four or five steelhead hooked — particularly when you are in fast water — you’re doing pretty well. And people when they first start steelhead fishing get all frustrated because they lose a lot of fish. These are hot fish, they’re in fast water, and they jump and they run and they turn and twist and never give up.”
