According to the Vision Council, more than 75 percent of adults use some sort of vision correction, with 64 percent of those wearing eyeglasses on a regular basis. Costa recently enhanced its line of prescription sunglasses to include five of its rimless styles, to give people who love being out on the water even more options when it comes to protecting their eyesight.

The Costa rimless sunglass styles now available in prescription sun lenses include: Austin, Ballast, Cayan, Destin and Galveston. An array of lens colors is available, such as gray, copper, blue mirror and silver mirror.

Each of the rimless prescription styles will be available in Costa’s patented 580P™ color enhancing lens technology, in either Trivex® or new polycarbonate material, and feature Costa’s C-WALL™ oleophobic molecular bond, to repel oil, dirt and water on the lens. The sunglasses also include backside anti-reflective UV protection, for added eyesight protection.

The company has invested heavily in its prescription sunglasses program, accommodating a wide range of corrective vision needs, including single vision, progressive and bifocal lenses. Costa developed its C-SCAPE Bifocal lenses with a backside round segment for the mature wearer who wants simple magnification for close-up tasks, like reading outdoors or tying a fly. Through Costa’s Waypoint digital processing, the C-SCAPE Bifocal features a blended line on the lens back surface, and ensures an exceptional distance viewing field.

“The blended line means you can now wear a bifocal lens, without everyone knowing you’re wearing a bifocal lens,” said Chas MacDonald, president of Costa. “Our C-SCAPE design gives wearers an increased field of distance, perfect for outdoor adventurers who want to see more of the world around them.”

Costa’s 580 lens technology selectively filters out harsh yellow and harmful high-energy ultraviolet blue light. Filtering yellow light enhances reds, blues and greens, and produces better contrast and definition while reducing glare and eye fatigue. Absorbing high-energy blue light cuts haze, producing greater visual clarity and sharpness.

Each rimless style is incredibly lightweight, and comprised of a nearly-indestructible bio-based resin material sourced from the castor plant, a sustainable, hardy perennial. The bio-based resin produces increased durability, overall sunglasses weight reduction, and the ability for the frame to hold shape from extreme heat to bitter cold temperatures, crucial for anglers out battling the elements.

Incorporating a bio-based resin frame construction reduces Costa’s manufacturing process emissions by up to 40 percent, and cuts the company’s overall carbon footprint significantly.

In addition to the durable frame construction, Costa’s rimless sunglasses feature sturdy integral hinge technology and hypoallergenic rubberized nose pads to keep the sunglasses comfortably in place all day, no matter how harsh the conditions.

All of Costa’s prescription sunglasses are customized in the company’s state-of-the-art optical lab within its Daytona Beach headquarters. The brand also laser engraves the Costa “C” into its lenses, so people know they’re receiving the clearest lenses on the planet.
