- New research published in the journal Nature Climate Change points to the weakening of a natural barrier due to a warming Arctic ocean that has served to separate fish species of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. “We know from historical examples that this kind of interchange, when biotas have been separated over long evolutionary time scales, can have huge consequence,” says Mary Wisz, lead author on the report and senior ecosystem scientist at Aarhaus University in Denmark.
