Local Photographer’s “Misadventures in Musky Country” Show Coming to the Coffee Ethic

Aaron J Scott’s images document an epic yet unlucky fly fishing adventure

Feb. 2, 2015 – Springfield, Missouri – In 2011, local photographer Aaron J Scott traveled to Wisconsin and Minnesota with two friends, professional fishing guides Kyle Kosovich and Brian Wise, in search of musky on the fly. “Misadventures in Musky Country” explores the connections between adventure, fly fishing and friendship through black-and-white photography. The show opens at the Coffee Ethic in Springfield, Mo., on February 6.

With the Driftless Area, Chippewa Flowage and Lake Vermilion as backdrops, Scott’s 15 prints document the landscapes, details and events of an epic fly-fishing trip—from a quiet moment along a trout stream to a giant fly buried deep into a friend’s shoulder. “Not only were we exploring unfamiliar waters, none of us had ever fished for musky,” Scott said. “It was extremely challenging—not to mention painful—but we relied on each other reassurance and encouragement, that maybe the next cast would be the one.”

Scott’s images serve to illustrate that the success of a fishing trip does not have to be defined by the number of fish brought to the boat. “Even though we failed at landing a musky, we shared an incredible experience and our friendship deepened as a result,” Scott said. “Misadventures in Musky Country” will be on display through March 31.
