Tippets: Lost Lines, Becoming a Better Fishing Partner

  • Researchers are using lost and snagged fishing line to monitor illegal fishing activities in no-take marine reserves such as the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park in Australia. The results of the study, published recently in the journal PLOS ONE, found that deposited fishing line “was about one-third the amount at open fishing sites, suggesting that levels of illegal fishing were higher than expected.” Via Conservation Magazine.
