In Memoriam, Christmas Island Fly Fishing Guide, Teannaki Kaiboboki

We were saddened to learn of the unexpected passing of legendary Christmas Island fly fishing guide and good friend Teannaki Kaiboboki earlier this month.

Teannaki is survived by his wife Temaebu and six children in Tabwakea Village, Christmas Island, Republic of Kiribati.

Teannaki

One of the first full-times guides in Kiribati, Teannaki’s years of experience and keen eye were a tremendous benefit to those of use who had the pleasure of fishing along side him. One of the most skilled and highly respected fly fishing guides on the Island, Teannaki had long associations with Island fishing lodges including The Captain Cook Hotel, The Villages, and Ikari House.

Many of our guests and friends recount wonderful stories with Teannaki, often describing these experiences as “the best day of flyfishing in my life.” Teannaki was the originator of the highly effective “Teannaki Special Fly,” a proven producer for big bonefish at Christmas Island.

A humble, gentle, thoughtful person with a wonderful sense of humor, Teanaki will be greatly missed by the worldwide fly fishing community and all who knew him.

Please forward this email to angling friends that may have fished with Teannaki over the years. We should all be thankful this Holiday Season that we had the pleasure of spending a day on the water with a wonderful man and guide like Teannaki.
