  • Google has teamed up with mapping company SkyTruth and marine-advocacy group Oceana to develop a tool called “Global Fishing Watch.” By mapping commercial fishing boat locations, it is hoped this technology will help monitor illegal fishing activity.
  • Even a misplaced cast can catch fish, and rather than re-casting, let the fly ride out the run, advises Daniel Galhardo. “After all the fly that is in the water is the fly that catches the fish, and fish are not only in the places we suppose they will be.”
  • A joint paper from the Wildlife Conservation Society, Montana State University, Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, and the U.S. Geological Survey was recently published in the North American Journal of Fisheries Management, and examines the possibility of electrofishing instead of piscicides to remove non-native trout species from waters shared with the native Westslope Cutthroat Trout.
