Tippets: Islamorada Sailfly Results, Wild & Scenic Olympic Penninsula, Flies for Redfish

  • The recently held 14th annual Islamorada Sailfly Championship was pounded with bad weather, but perseverance paid off for some anglers. Bill Sargent reports on the event in Florida Today.
  • Legislature was recently introduced that would put logging, dams and other development off-limits on 126,554 acres of federal lands on the Olympic Peninsula. It would also slate 19 rivers and their tributaries as “wild and scenic,” resulting in congressional protection.
  • As winter months offer some of the best opportunities for chasing skinny water redfish, Joe Cermele recently penned an article on the best crab flies to take with you. “When temps dip, these crustaceans can be more abundant than shrimp,” says Cermele, “but the trick to hooking up with one is understanding when each unique pattern works best.”
