Making Do with Perfection

Here we are in the peak of sight-casting season in New Zealand–an appropriate time to reveal another excellent piece of writing by Derek Grzelewski, a writer, photographer and adventurer whose The Trout Dairies one of the better pure fishing books of recent years. “I am an impassioned unbeliever in false casting, especially when the water is so clear it can make you feel an onset of vertigo when you look into it,” says Grzelewski in this short tale of “making do” on a secret river’s backwaters.
