Press Release Sent on 12/01/2012:

Tenkara USA is running a huge benefit sale where it will sell its most popular tenkara rod, the 11ft Iwana, for $100 and $50 of that will go to organizations that protect fish habitat, such as Trout Unlimited.

Tenkara is the simple Japanese method of fly-fishing, which uses only a rod, line and fly (no reel). Rods are telescopic; the 11ft Iwana folds down to a mere 20 inches and weighs only 2.5 oz. The line is tied directly to the end of the rod, and cast in the same manner as western fly-fishing.

This sale provides a great opportunity for anyone who has been interested in trying tenkara to jump in with both feet and give it a try with top-of-the-line equipment while supporting the environment. It should also be noted that at this year’s IFTD (International Fly Tackle Dealer) show, Tenkara USA won the BEST GIFT award for a complete tenkara set containing the Iwana rod. As it described in its submission: “it is the ideal gift for the fly angler who has everything, and for the outdoor enthusiast who has always wanted to give fly-fishing a try.”

Tenkara USA was founded in 2009 by Daniel Galhardo. It is the first company to introduce tenkara outside of Japan, and since its introduction tenkara has developed a passionate following and growing popularity.
