Tippets: Pruett Publishing Sells, Kreh’s Casting Principles on iTunes, Saltier Water, Preventing Invasive Species

  • After a thirty year run, Boulder, Colorado-based Pruett Publishing is closing its doors, with owner Jim Pruett’s decision to sell the business to Oregon publisher Graphic Arts Books.  Graphic Arts will continue “The Pruett Series” for reprints and reissues of original Pruett titles, which include books by Scott Sanchez and Pat Dorsey.
  • A new application that breaks down Lefty Kreh’s “Four Principles of Fly Casting” can now be downloaded on iTunes.
  • Over the last fifty years, saltwater has become saltier and fresh water fresher, say NASA researchers for the Salinity Processes in the Upper Ocean Regional Study. Changes in evaporation due to temperature, as well as wind might be playing a part. “It is a delicate balance and what we think now is it is not too likely the conveyor belt is going to shut down anytime soon,” says Ray Schmitt, senior scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
  • From Marc Fauvet comes a reminder to “inspect, clean, and dry” after every fishing trip, to protect from transfer of invasive species between bodies of water.
