Prosek’s New Projects

Called the Audubon of our day, naturalist, artist, and fisherman James Prosek catches and paints thirty-five saltwater species in his newest book Ocean Fishes. With stunning watercolor portraits (the originals of which are life-sized, from a 14-inch porgy to a 12-foot blue marlin), accompanied by Prosek’s reflected experience on each fish, “It is also the author’s quiet conservation statement. In showing the beauty and monumentality of these fish, Prosek is urging us to preserve what we have before it is lost.”

A sibling project, “Picture the Leviathan,” is a documentary film following the journey of capturing each fish from sea to canvas.
