Podcast Interview: Ryan Harrison, Founder of Waterworks/Lamson, Talks Bikes and Fly Fishing Reels

Ryan Harrison - Founder of Waterworks/Lamson

Ryan Harrison goes back in history to talk about how his parent company the C1 Design Group invented the first clipless pedal for bikes and the “headshok” suspension system for Cannondale, and how those concepts translated into fly fishing products in 1995-96.

Ryan says, “You just don’t find product design firms in fly fishing—you find manufacturers, you find machine shops, or you find marketing companies that put their name on something that somebody else makes.  Ultimately almost all fly reels besides us trace back to design being done at the level of manufacturing by machinists…. Our background is industrial design and it’s its own discipline….”

I have a Winston twelve and half foot 6/7wt. Boron 2x Spey rod. I understand you are about to come out with a new Reel which might work well for this rod. Could you tell me a bit more about the reel, when it might be available, and with whom I might be able to get more information about the reel. I own a place on the Kispiox River and fish avidly each Fall for steelhead.
