Video: “Silver King”

In 1885 in Sanibel Island’s Tarpon Bay, William Halsey Wood caught the first ever tarpon on a fly rod and reel. With a split cane rod, he landed a 93-pound tarpon, revolutionizing sport fishing and changing fly fishing forever. “Silver King,” written and produced by Lynne Howard Frazer, and narrated by Peter Thomas, tells the story on WGCU Presents.

Wonderful episode on the history of tarpon fishing here. Also, Randy Wayne White’s book on the history of tarpon fishing in this area is a must read. Thank you for posting the link. Hope it’s ok to share this over on my facebook page.
