- Didymo and contamination were killing Montana’s Clark Fork River before restoration efforts were ramped up in the last few years. Now the river is “utterly transformed,” writes Michael Fiebig of American Rivers.
- Lieutenant Overcash of Pennsylvania’s Washington County Sheriff’s Office took up fly tying in 1996 after his 10-year-old daughter died of cancer. The tying, according to Overcash, “helped ease the heartache and depression caused by her death.”
- A “sea mouse” pattern can be deadly on a sea-run trout, asserts Don MacLean of the Cape Breton Post. The “mouse”, is actually a worm that is covered in hair-like threads giving it the appearance of a mouse. In 1986, Icelandic fly tier, Sigurdur Palsson developed the fly “flaedarmus” as an imitation.
- One recent lottery winner in California should be the pride of all anglers for his decision to spend his earnings properly. “I love to fly fish. I’m going to some of the places I’ve never been,” George Saupe said after winning $259,268.
