The Montana Trout Egg Shell Game

A Billings Gazette opinion piece suggesting that Montana’s governor not interfere with trout egg shipments exposes the complexity surrounding federal involvement in Montana hatcheries—and the confusion that can result when policy decisions at the state level challenge US Fish and Wildlife programs.  While governor Schweitzer did indeed stop egg shipment for two days in late December, he says it is all about accountability: “‘We just want to know what they’re shipping,’ Schweitzer told the Associated Press.”
