LL Bean River Treads Wading Boots

L.L. Bean River Treads Wading Boots

LL Bean River Treads Wading Boots

“River Treads Wading Boots” offer the increasingly popular BOA-closure system that cinches down with a quick twist of a knob, creating a custom fit. These boots are also built to resist the transport of destructive aquatic materials such as Didymo (rock snot) and Whirling Disease. The River Treads are easy to clean, have few seams and are made of materials that dry quickly. Nonporous upper, laces and sole materials also discourage unwanted hitchhikers. To make streamside cleaning easier, Bean included a brush to keep in your vest. The sole is made from grippy Five-Ten rubber, which is also available in a studded version for even greater traction. Whole sizes Medium D 7 to 14 cost $179 for basic, and $199 for studded soles.

Simms has a similar system and it looks fantastic. Gone are the broken shoe laces and trouble lacing up in freezing weather. Question is: How do them hold up when gummed up from mud and grit? Do they freeze up in below 32˚? Only time will tell.

My feet did not like the BOA system. It clamped down on my instep and left the anckle and foot loose. Went back to the laces. Got a pair of Simms guide boots.
