Phil Monahan fields a follow-up to his piece on prepackaged leaders. “How long,” a reader asks, “will those unopened, pre-packaged leaders last in my vest or gear bag? That depends on the leader, Phil notes, but your vest is probably the worst place to store them.

    Can’t we just use a hand pull test on the tippets to determine if the leader is good?  Tie on a fly, and pull on it to determine if it is good?  If it isn’t, or if there is any question, but it back, and tie on a new tippet, maybe flouro.
