Podcast: Tom Rosenbauer on Traveling with Fly Gear

January 22, 2011 By: Marshall Cutchin

After offering a couple of tips on wading in saltwater and flies you “absolutely have to have,” Tom talks about the challenges of traveling with fly fishing gear.

“Plan on breaking a rod… and a reel. You really should take a backup, even if it’s an inexpensive and even if your backup rod and reel aren’t quite what you would want for that trip. So if you are going to need an 8-weight bonefish rod and you don’t have another 8-weight, take a 7- or take a 9- if you have it. And maybe you can’t get a ton of backing on that reel — maybe it’s your trout reel — but you really should have a backup.”
